Summary of Filming Process

This is How our Filming Progress went:
Myself, Stacey and Hayley all took part in the filming progress i was an actress as well as involved in filming scenes without me in. Connor could not attend the filming due to financial transport issues and therefore he will hopefully be more part in the editing side of our project. We let the people in charge of the car park know when we were starting filming and when we had finished, they were ever so helpful and interested in what we were doing. They allocated us a certain part of the car park which wouldn't be busy so that we could get on with our filming. We also wore fluorescent clothing to make people recognise that we were filming. We tried to use a tripod for various scenes in our trailer however we had problems trying to balance this and get it straight, They yellow bubble was stubborn and wouldn't go in the middle. We did a short clip of Adam inside the car this was tricky trying to get the camera in a suitable place for what we wanted to show and also to get lighting. We did not have profession interior lighting as this wouldn't have been affordable so instead we used a smart phone with a torch application, this worked well in the end as it was compact, convenient and cheap. Myself, Stacey and Hayley all used the Sony camera at various points of the day. We set the white balance and focused and zoomed in order to suit our footage. However when looking back at our unused footage some shots were out of focused and therefore couldn't be used. In the future with more experience of the camera and its features we would have been able to improve this however we believed we did the best we could. There was a scene where i had to lie on the floor is a short black dress. The temperature was freezing and therefore we attempted to work as quick as possible for these scenes. The team work was really well i didn't know how to get to the chosen car park so Stacey picked me up. There were other minor problems throughout the day however we managed to solve these. Myself and Stacey had never met Adam the actor before however he was very friendly and there was no awkwardness. We all had fun filming our teaser trailer and it was a good experience.

hunt animatics

Firstly in order to make our animatic sound realistic we created a soundtrack on garage band this contained street noise and car sounds, this was then converted to the format of mp3 and inserted to imovie where we created the rest of our animatic. The animatic was like a moving story board giving us a better insight to what our final teaser film trailer will look like. We scanned in the story board images and made some of them move for example the legs walking round the car and the accelerator in the car being pushed down. This didn't take long to do and helped us understand how to use the basics of garage band software and imovie software. We then uploaded it onto the YouTube account that i created for media studies and shared it on my blog page.

Filming in Progress

Here are some photos of my group filming our film teaser trailer. We wore suitable clothing making passers by aware of the filming in progress. These photos show good teamwork throughout the day. Unfortunately Connor couldn't join us whilst filming.

Obtaining Permission

In order to film in a multistory car park we need to get permission from the owner of the car park. We started by ringing Coventry city council as this is the city we were hoping to film in. They then gave us an email address of the person in charge of the CV1 car parks which is the city centre. We emailed him However this was unsuccessful and Stacey rang up Stratford City Council which told us they own 2 multistory car parks and we could use either, After viewing both we decided Our final location is Bridge foot Car Park, Stratford-Upon-Avon this was most suitable. On the day of filming at approximately 10am Hayley contacted the Stratford-Upon-Avon Police to inform them we would be using a fake gun. she rung 01789 414111 and they gave us an incident number - 127. she had to give details such as the time and place of filming, and her name.

Update
We are able to use Bridge foot Car Park and therefore wont need to use any of our contingency plans and will be able to use our original idea with the black car.

Contingency Plan

We have ran into problems with our location of a multi story car park.

We have contacted a man called Mike O'Connor (who works for CV1 in Coventry) who is letting us know if we will be able to obtain permission to film in a car park in Coventry city centre on a Sunday afternoon. We contacted him through email which we got from ringing Coventry city council. However we have learnt that the Belgrade Plaza Car park will not let us film due to being privately owned, nor the car park on New Union Street due to our storyline involving a dead person and a gun therefore causing awareness to customers using the car park.
Instead we have come up with a contingency plan which includes:
-Filming in Stratford car park Multi story not effecting our planning or storyboard(Stacey will contact the Stratford-Upon-Avon Council to obtain permission)
-Filming in a car park in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
-Earlier filming of the black car before it is taken away due to being a hire car.
-Filming of the interior in a different car with similar features of the black car.

Font Tally

To decide on a font for our magazine front cover, film teaser trailer and film poster, our group choose a selection of fonts that we thought could be suitable for our final product. We made a shortlist, then asked our target audience to choose their favourite font they thought would suit our product. The results we got are, the most popular font was Arial Black Bold with a space inbetween the characters. It won with 14 votes and Arial Unicode Ms with spaces came second. Our group will take the information from this research and use it to influence our final products.

Font Reseach

This is a scan of The Observer on 17/10/10.
The article was about different fonts and what specific fonts are recognised and used for in everyday life. This will be useful to our group as we will have to think about the fonts we use on our cross media campaign. This article was interesting to read because it is an article about typography and why certain fonts are more popular. The article is an extract from Just My Type: A book about fonts, by Simon Garfield, and has given me brief insights into the history of typography, and the process of how they are created. Also, it uses the terminology given to specific parts of the letters which adds to my knowledge. The article includes findings from Anthony Cahalan on font popularity, these were his results:

Our group will stay clear from using the least favourite fonts as these are least likely to grab the audiences attention and stand out. This secondary research is reliable due to knowing its from 100 different designers. From reading this text i know our texts needs to be both attractive and piratical as it would be no good to produce something that looked boring or that wasn't readable due to have too fancy a font. This article relates well to the products i am creating as fonts can relate to your target audience for example a spirally font would be for a more feminine audience.

Potential Locations

Here are some various car parks in Coventry where we could potentially shoot our teaser trailer. None of these pictures are my own they are from google maps http://www.maps.google.com/ however i will be taking my own photo's for location when we are shooting the trailer for my location Recce

Health and Safety Assesment

In order to make sure that everyone producing the film teaser trailer is kept safe throughout these are the precautions we will have to take.

Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
An Act to make further provision for securing the health, safety and welfare of persons at work, for protecting others against risks to health or safety in connection with the activities of persons at work, for controlling the keeping and use and preventing the unlawful acquisition, possession and use of dangerous substances, and for controlling certain emissions into the atmosphere; to make further provision with respect to the employment medical advisory service; to amend the law relating to building regulations, and the Building (Scotland) Act 1959; and for connected purposes

When looking at the health and safety at work act i realised i needed to provide and maintain a safe environment with safe working equipment. Ensure there is safe storage, handling and transportation due to using a moving car is our teaser film trailer. Also make sure there are adequate facilities for us all to use for example female and male toilets.

I also looked at this website to research the health and safety act.

Costume Mood Board

Our group have done this mood board of different outfit ideas for costumes for our two main characters in our teaser film trailer. This is only rough however gives us a better idea of the type of outfit we want our actor and actress to wear.

Cross Media Marketing - Inception

The first thing the audience See's in the film teaser trailer is who the film is produced by letting the audience know what other films this producer has made and how well rated they are. Giving them an idea how good this film will be. The font is in a metallic silver on a black background making the text clear and giving it an edgy effect. A close up of an object spinning then appears intriguing the audience to whats going to happen. In the same font as before showing consistence and were also told a film produced by the producer for people that didn't already know. The audience then see a birds eye view of an urban city showing the location of the film. A mid shot shows us a facial expression of what could be a main character he looks shocked and worried telling the audience something has happened. A women is then seen to be dragged away by two men this could be what the mans facial expression was responding to. This then fades to black and an actors name appears he is well known and if the audience like this actor it may make them go and see the film. Another close up of an object is used however this time the audience get an idea that there is unnatural goings on as the water in the glass tilts to one side without any human involvement. Text then appears saying 'your mind' then it cuts to the main character and then the rest of the slogan appears saying 'is the scene of the crime' this gives the audience more idea about what the film is about but not giving away too much. We then get a few fast tempo cuts showing scenes from the film these include, a room spinning with two people inside it, A man covered in water and a man looking shocked on a train. Finally we are shown a cartooned landscape of the city this then turns into the title of the film which is clever and interesting. When the film is released then appears in the same font, a silver colour. At the end the audience are quickly shown the names of the people who work behind thew scenes. Throughout the trailer non diegetic sound is played which is uneasy on the ear in a minor key with drums and this sound builds up and up until the title of the film is revealed this sets tension for the audience.

Cross Media Campaign - Inception

I decided to do research on the inception cross media advertising due to deciding to do this type of genre for my teaser trailer this gives me some ideas for my own work and shows some of the basic conventions for a thriller poster, teaser trailer and magazine front cover.
