Facebook Audience Reseach

For our audience research my group and I created a Facebook questionnaire that we sent out to 20 of our friends. After 4 days of sending the questionnaire, we only received one reply. As this proved not as successful as we had hoped, we decided to work on Survey Monkey to collect results.

Postmodernism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodernism
Postmodernism is a tendency in contemporary culture characterized by the rejection of objective truth and global cultural narrative or meta-narrative. It emphasizes the role of language, power relations, and motivations; in particular it attacks the use of sharp classifications such as male versus female, straight versus gay, white versus black, and imperial versus colonial. Postmodernism has influenced many cultural fields, including literary criticism, sociology, linguistics, architecture, visual arts, and music.
Postmodernist thought is an intentional departure from modernist approaches that had previously been dominant. The term "postmodernism" comes from its critique of the "modernist" scientific mentality of objectivity and progress associated with the Enlightenment.
These movements, modernism and postmodernism, are understood as cultural projects or as a set of perspectives. "Postmodernism" is used in critical theory to refer to a point of departure for works of literature, drama, architecture, cinema, journalism, and design, as well as in marketing and business and in the interpretation of law, culture, and religion in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Indeed, postmodernism, particularly as an academic movement, can be understood as a reaction to modernism in the Humanities. Whereas modernism was primarily concerned with principles such as identity, unity, authority, and certainty, postmodernism is often associated with difference, plurality, textually, and skepticism.
This theory may be relevant to my final product of a film teaser trailer this is why i have looked into it. It seems to play a big part in media in today's society

Cross Media Campaign Research
- bright colours are used.
- A messy splattered effect is used.
- Bold font.
- The same uniform is worn in the teaser trailer, poster and magazine front cover.
- Weapons are shown in all three marketing campaigns.
- Motionless expressions are shown on all the characters faces.
- They use slogans on both the magazine front cover and the poster.
- We are told the names of the main characters in both the trailer and magazine front cover.
- The main character is shown in all three marketing campaigns
Cross Media Campaign Research

The background of this film poster is plain black not revealing anything about the location and setting of the film to the audience. However it does help to make the text on the poster stand out. At the header of the poster we are given the names of some famous actors, this could be a selling point for the film if the audience like one of the actors featured in the poster. The white font also stands out on the black background. The first thing that catches the audiences eye is the huge yellow font title. The bright title combined with the size of the font makes it eye catching and the first thing the audience will notice when looking at the poster. In the middle of the poster we have 4 characters which look like they have burst through the title of the film giving a superhero effect. All the characters are in a uniform showing they have authority however all in different uniforms making them look like they aren't all on the same team working together like a football team would all wear the same uniform. The expressions in their faces are emotionless showing they are stern and have no feelings. They are all holding weapons or doing a violent gesture showing the audience there is violence in this film. Finally the picture has a splattered effect making it look messy this could also be a sign that the film is messy. Underneath the title we see a slogan 'shut up. Kick ass' this is very direct to the audience and due to it being a short slogan it will remain in the readers head. We are then given some more information written in a smaller font and in a grey colour this shows less importance as it doesn't stand out on the page as much as the other texts. Then in the footer of the poster we see 'in theaters now' this is in bright yellow so is again standing out however it isn't in a large font and therefore isn't taking the importance away from the yellow font title.
Cross Media Campaign Research

In the header of the Magazine Front cover there is a banner this draws the readers attention to it due it being white, the amount of white being used on this cover is very minimal making it more exaggurated when used. Also the neon green and black font help to make it stand out. The Masthead is just below this banner it is written in splattered blood type effect This goes with the film due to it having a violent nature. The picture of the main character is placed infront of the masthead this is a popular convention used on magazine front covers. In the background we can see faded superheros this reveals more about the film giving the audience the idea that this film is based on a comic book story Furthermore it tells us the name of these two superheros in the background in bold introducing us to the characters slightly. The character has blood on his face and looks as though he is drawing for a weapon therefore we know fighting is involved. The uniform he is in gives the idea that he has some sort of authority. The slogan used for this film on this cover is 'its bloody its brilliant and boy does it kick ass' The alliteration makes this slogan stay in the audiences head also the bright neon green font for the title of the film lets the reader know straight away what the magazine is about also the red font colour represent anger to the audience. In the footer of the magazine we are told what else features in the magazine.
Cross Media Campaign Research
The first thing the audience hear is a dramatic drum roll and a fan fair this tells them something important is about to happen. We the get an establishing shot showing us the location of the character, which is at the top of a building. There is a narrator speaking over the top of the dramatic non diegetic music this helps explain to the audience about the storyline. The wings on the costume of the character then open, this sound effect is exaggerated. We can then see that the character is dressed as a superhero explaining more about the genre of this film, a comedy. We see characters on the street pointing up at the building wondering like the audience watching the teaser trailer what is about to happen. Close up shots of the character at the top of the building show us he has no fear in his face even though he is standing on the roof of a sky scraper building. A low angle shot is used to show the person diving from the building. The 'superhero' then crashes straight into a taxi and the expressions on the peoples faces watching are shocked and unimpressed. We then get a pan shot emphasising what has just happened. An edit is used with text saying 'In 2010' this has a splattered background and bright colours are used. A shot reverse shot is used showing the person who was narrating having a conversation with who i presume are his friends. This is then followed by another edit with the words 'No powers?' this is a rhetorical question revealing a bit more to the audience about the film. He then puts on his green and yellow superhero costume and shows two poles, which look like weapons this is funny as he looks more like he is going to a fancy dress party. They then introduce the other main characters with an upbeat song in the background, uplifting the mood of the audience. They use edits to show the characters names and an action shot of them to show the audience a bit about their personality. There is a black out used to move on time in the trailer. Then the main character is shown and has the same name as the film. At the end a shot of when the film can be seen in the cinema and the website for the film.
Cross media marketing definition
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-media_marketing
Cross media marketing is a form of cross-promotion in which promotional companies commit to surpassing the traditional advertisements and decide to include extra appeals to their offered products.. The material can be communicated by any mass media such as e-mails, letters, web pages, or other recruiting sources. This method can be extremely successful for publishers because the marketing increases the ad’s profit from a single advertiser. Furthermore, this tactic generates a good liaison between the advertiser and the publisher, which also boosts the profits.
Typical "junk mail".One of the first steps to integrate cross media tactics effectively into a specific project is to evaluate and examine a customer’s preferences.
Scheduling – When should I contact the customer?
Rate – What is the correct time frame to leave between the delivery of my first, second and third message to the customer?
Pacing - How frequently should I check up on the customer?
Incidence – If a customer is not responding, how long should I continue to pursue the offer?
Cross media marketing programs are difficult to advertise; therefore, Damien Marchi, who was involved in the second season of Big Brother in France, created eight commandments to cross-media marketing success.
1.Give users access to exclusive content not seen on television. During a TV or movie production usually more material is shot than can be shown. Users like this unused content exclusively, for example on the Internet, through a club.
2.Interact with the show- Give the power to the audience. Involve the audience by having them vote, ask questions and by polling them
3.Make the show even more known. Use besides television the other media to keep the users in touch with the show.
4.Increases users’ loyalty. Loyalty of fans can be stimulated by a fan club and viral games.
5.Recreate the atmosphere. Levy the atmosphere of the TV show to another medium.
6.Continue the show on the web. Use the TV show to drive the other devices
7.Enhance the watching experience. Stimulate simultaneous use of media (browse the Internet when watching TV for example).
8.Use multiple devices. A multi-device system built around a TV show allows channel to increase the number of revenue streams.
One of the major problems with cross-media marketing is the creative development level. Getting one group to collectively use their creativity and communicate with the other areas of work is very difficult when one team is working on television, another is involved in designing the print creative, another is developing radio ads, and yet another is putting together the Internet program. Although the messaging elements are not very hard to compose, creating a campaign that is completely mutually dependent, with each branch of the project fulfilling their task, is quite impossible when the creative teams are split. Therefore, to achieve some sort of cohesion, teams must communicate and corporate with each branch.
By reading about cross media advertising i have a better idea of why i am producing 3 different products for one film. The three different products will help advertise the film to the target audience making it more likely to be a success when it is released. The promotion will be able to be seen over the Internet, outside and inside cinemas in magazines and on the television making it hard for people to miss. Before i produce my cross media marketing products i will have to find out my target audience and who my promotion will be aimed at.

Rate it. Tag it. Filter it.
As your video library grows, you’ll need a fast way to find your favorite clips (and hide the ones you’re not thrilled with). With iMovie, you can label clips — or parts of clips — as “favorite” or “rejected,” tag video with preset or custom keywords, then filter your entire library by rating and/or keyword.
Will your camcorder work with iMovie?
iMovie '09 supports the most popular video formats like AVCHD and MPEG 4, and even the new iFrame video format. iFrame is designed to make importing and editing video fast and easy without taking up a lot of space on your hard drive. View a complete list of iMovie-supported camcorders and devices.
Edit fast. Edit precisely.
Drag, drop, and thank the academy.
Know how to drag files to your desktop? Then you know how to edit a movie in iMovie. Drag your favorite clips into the project area and arrange them as you wish. Drag in titles and transitions. Drag in photos. Drag in a song from iTunes to create your soundtrack. That’s drag-and-drop moviemaking, and iMovie makes it fast and easy.
iMovie gives you more ways to add clips to your project: Now you can replace or insert clips using a single pop-up menu. Or edit just your audio. As you work, you can drag and drop markers to help you remember specific points in your project or to have your clips snap to the beats of a song.
Fine-tune every edit.
When you have all your clips where you want them, fine-tune even the trickiest cuts and transitions with the Precision Editor. A magnified filmstrip view shows you exactly where one clip ends and the next begins, so you can skim each clip up close and identify precisely how much to keep and where to cut. Adjust the duration of transitions. Edit audio and video independently, so you can use the sound from one clip with the video from another. Reposition titles and effects.

iMovie displays each clip as a filmstrip, so you can see everything at once. Interact with the filmstrip by moving your mouse over it. As you do, video appears in the preview window at the top of your screen. It’s a simple way to enjoy video — from the shortest clip to the longest scene.

Go full screen.
Sometimes you want to enjoy your video without any onscreen distractions. With full-screen browsing, you can flip through your entire video library using Cover Flow — the same way you flip through albums in iTunes. Toggle between Events and projects or browse individual clips from your library and play them full screen. Even the clip-skimming feature works in full-screen mode. When you roll over a filmstrip, you see the related clip full screen.
Add titles, transitions, oohs, and ahhs.
Add and edit real-time titles.
iMovie makes it easy to add all the elements of a great movie, starting with the opening credits. Preview 20 new titles (for a total of 32) in the Title Browser. Find one you like and drag it onto any video clip. Or, for a neat trick, drag a title where there isn’t any video. That opens a Preview Palette with animated backgrounds. Choose one and your title appears over it. Type over the placeholder text and you’re done. If you change your mind about a title style, drag in another. iMovie applies the new style instantly.
Choose cinema-quality transitions.
To keep your cuts interesting, choose from 20 transitions by skimming over them in the Preview Palette. One click picks the perfect transition and applies it instantly.
Apply some effects.
Maybe you want a particular clip to feel like a dream sequence. Or perhaps you’d prefer to give your movie a vintage look. Whatever your inspiration, iMovie has you covered with 19 video effects. Take a look at all the effects in the Preview Palette, then apply them to a single clip, multiple clips, or an entire project.
In addition to video effects displayed in the Preview Palette, iMovie includes picture-in-picture and green-screen effects you can apply using the Advanced Tools pop-up menu.

Enhance your movie Hollywood-style.
Steady shaky clips.
Don’t leave those perfect — if slightly wobbly — moments on the cutting-room floor. New video stabilization in iMovie analyzes how much your camera was moving, then automatically reduces shake. Stabilize on a clip-by-clip basis or analyze all your video (the latter may take a while, but it’s worth it). iMovie even identifies moments when the camera was excessively shaky and marks that footage with a squiggly red line, so you can hide it.
Pick a theme, any theme.
To make your movies look even more professional, add a dynamic theme. Choose a theme such as Bulletin Board, Filmstrip, or Comic Book and apply it to your project instantly. iMovie does the rest, adding animated titles and sophisticated transitions automatically. Your themed project plays right away. You don’t have to wait to see the results.
Animate your travels.
Enhance your video travelogues with eye-catching, animated travel maps. Choose from four different 3D globe or flat map styles, select your location (or locations), and iMovie builds an animated map. If you want to change its look, drag another map on top of your current one to change the style without affecting your locations.
When it’s time to make final adjustments, iMovie puts color and audio controls in floating windows you can place anywhere on your screen. Use sliders to adjust exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, and white point. Adjust audio levels for each clip to give your movie a consistent, comfortable volume. All your changes occur in real time, so you can be sure you’ve got everything just right.

Questionniare Results

In order to make my questionnaire as fair as possible i tried to get an equal amount of females and males answering the questions. The age groups were mainly 14-29 as this is my target audience and therefore i would want to know their opinions on teaser trailers, film posters and front covers to film magazines. The cinema was the mos preferred place to watch a film however when questioned how often people visited the cinema monthly it was only once that came out the most popular answer, this shows in the 21st century people have less money to afford to go to the cinema to watch a film and would be more efficient to just buy it and watch it when you can as many times as you would like, the average amount of films watched in a month were 1-5. I asked which type of cross media advertising would attract them the most and the majority said a teaser trailer this means i will be focusing on this mainly making sure i show vital information in it as well as the film poster and film magazine front cover. People relied on film reviews the most before watching a film to know if it would be worth watching or not, therefore i could include a quote from a review to attract my audience this could be done on the front cover of my film magazine as the majority of people i asked did read film magazines. The preferred length of a teaser film trailer was 21-30 seconds however i may increase this by 5 or 10 seconds in order to include edits with text on at the end. To show a lot in my teaser film trailer fast cuts can be used to keep the audience on the edge of their seat. Horror and Thriller were the most popular genres when asked therefore i am doing a thriller genre making the success of the film more likely. Throughout my cross media campaign for my film i will be including information about the release date, title and characters starring in the film as this was the vital information people wanted to know about before seeing a film.
